Honouring Courage
Why We Show Appreciation
Today, the 30th of July is National Whistleblowers Appreciation Day and we pause to recognise the brave individuals who speak up to expose wrongdoing, challenge injustice, and protect the public interest — often at great personal and professional cost.
From unsafe patient care and financial malpractice to environmental breaches and corporate fraud, Whistleblowers across the UK make a critical difference. Their voices help prevent harm, save lives, and strengthen transparency in both public and private sectors.
Our Role: Standing With Those Who Speak Up
At Speak UP Now UK we have supported Whistleblowers through listening to their stories and giving them a platform to share their experiences on the record. We have signposted them to receive legal advice, we have campaigned for policy reform and we continue to offer mental health support.
We believe that no one should be punished for doing the right thing.

Campaigning for policy reform and Whistleblower protection
“The foundations of our society should be built on truth and transparency. The fact that people feel like they can not bring concerns to light, because they fear retaliation or job loss, is ridiculous. Whistleblowing shouldn’t be so alien, it should be standard to stand up for what’s right within Public Services. Speak Up Now UK works to platform those voices that have been silenced by their workplace and end stigma and retaliation for the brave people that do speak out.”
— [Issy Vine] Founder and Managing Director
Speak Up Now UK publishes real stories in order to make a real impact. We stand with all the Whistleblowers that have made the sacrifice to do the right thing.
Dr. Peter Duffy – Exposed unsafe practices in the NHS
Windrush/Grenfell whistleblowers – Raised early warnings
Financial whistleblowers – Prevented millions in losses
The UK Landscape: Room for Reform
Though the Public Interest Disclosure Act (PIDA) broke ground in 1998, it no longer meets the needs of modern Whistleblowers.
48% of Whistleblowers feel unsupported
Only 7% say reports led to meaningful change
60% fear career damage after speaking up
That’s why we’re advocating for stronger legal protections, universal frameworks, and independent reporting channels.
