Hidden Heroes Day: Honouring the People Who Keep Our Justice System Going

ree

Every year, Hidden Heroes Day shines a light on the dedicated professionals who work tirelessly in UK prisons, immigration removal centres (IRCs), probation, and youth justice services. These are the people who often go unseen by the public but whose work is essential to public safety, rehabilitation, and support for some of the most vulnerable individuals in our communities.

Created by Hidden Heroes UK and supported by the Butler Trust, this national observance celebrates prison officers, probation workers, youth justice coordinators, IRC staff, and others in custodial and community justice roles. They work under immense pressure, often in challenging environments, yet continue to demonstrate resilience, professionalism, and humanity.

Even though we are a whistleblowing organisation, we believe it’s vital to acknowledge and champion the amazing, hardworking employees across these services. Their efforts—too often overlooked—help maintain order, promote rehabilitation, and offer second chances.

On Hidden Heroes Day, we pause to say thank you. Thank you to those who go above and beyond in difficult circumstances. Thank you for your commitment, your compassion, and your courage.

Behind the walls and beyond the headlines, these hidden heroes make a difference every single day.
